ARTIST PROFILE

Toulouse Lautrec seduced me with his lithography. The great printmakers of the 16th and 17th Centuries inspired me. I trained as a printmaker and fine artist and grew into illustration from that rootstock.
I spent most of my life in South Africa, absorbing its indelible images which inform my way of thinking. No comfort zone. No apologies. No veneer. No hype.
I taught History of Art at a number of universities. I never owned a car until I was 40. I worked in the film and TV industry for some years. I was once a soldier, a fireman, a radio announcer, amongst other things.
I paint. Fine art feeds my illustration as the illustration feeds my fine art. There is no barrier between the two.
I make art.
